Case Description
I fell and chipped my top two front teeth as a child. Last year I got veneers. The bottom of one tooth was chipping away, and I went today to have the tooth re-done. When I "complained" about small holes on the top of the tooth, the dentist filed down the front of the tooth. My tooth is completely flat and doesn't match the other one. I trusted my dentist when he said he could fix my chipped teeth. I am not happy with the work. Where can I find a dentist specializing in cosmetic dentistry? Even if the dentist says his vision is 20/20, shouldn't he wear glasses to magnify the tooth that is getting a veneer?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

As a periodontist, I can tell you that most clinicians wear magnification in practice. I see a wide variety of skill among the general dentists in the philly area. There is a phenomenal restorative/cosmetic dentist in Chalfont. Pa. His name is Brian Wilk and his practice is Highpoint Dental Medicine. The website is quite impressive.

I would be happy to take a look at your esthetic problem. Without seeing your teeth I would only be guessing at treatment options. Feel free to set up an appointment for a consultation. And yes I use magnification during preparation, but it doesn''''''''t sound like that was the problem here. You can see some recent case photos on my web site. hatborodental.com. Take care.Dr Bob

Unfortunately, there is not a designated specialty in cosmetic dentistry. This means that any dental practitioner who''''s taken a weekend course in veneers can slap up a sign and call themselves a ''''cosmetic dentist''''. Cosmetic dentistry takes a skillful hand and a discriminating eye. It takes rigorous training and high clinical standards. Bottom line is, don''''t trust just any dentist to do your cosmetic treatment. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) is a good source for finding dentists who are serious about practicing high quality cosmetic dentistry. Keep in mind that any dentist can join as a General Member, but the AACD has a very rigorous accreditation process that a dentist must pass before getting achieving full accreditation status. Dr. Doray is the only AACD Accreditation Candidate in Philadelphia. She has been specializing in Cosmetic and Advanced Restorative Dentistry for over 27 years. If you are ready to step up to a new level of care and the get best cosmetic results possible, call our office for a consult appointment.

I am a cosmetic dentist with advanced training and experience. I have been answering many patients questions on this forum for several years. I''''''''m not going to blow my own horn other than to say I''''''''m in practice for 14 years, I''''''''ve been trained at the world renowned cosmetic dentistry center the Las Vegas Center for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI), I''''m a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics, I''''''''ve been featured on NBC for my cosmetic work, I''''''''ve had several articles published, and I am the president of the Main Line Dental Society. Go to www.MainLineCosmeticDentistry.com to find out more about my practice, read what patients have to say about their experience and results, see a sample of my before and after cases, and watch my TV appearances in the "in the media" section. My reputation is based on exceptional results in a very relaxed spa like setting. I am often the Main Line cosmetic dentist that people come to when they are not happy with the results they have previously received. And yes, I do wear magnifying glasses. David Kaffey, DDS
