Case Description
my spouse and I are covered under 1 dental plan thru his employer. I picked up supplemental dental insurance for us thru my employer. I cant seem to find a dentist that takes both plans. Is there a reason why dental providers cannot take both plans?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Hi. Dental insurance is a very frustrating thing. The insurance companies are very shady on the dental end so it''''s getting harder to find dental offices that are providers of insurance companies. Also, some plans have "out-of-network" and "in-network" dentists but a lot of time there isn''''t a difference in percentage covered between the two.Have I lost you yet? It can be complicated. However, I would love to bring you two into our office for a FREE consultation. You will receive free cavity-detecting x-rays and a free exam. You will also be able to voice any concerns or problems you may be experiencing. While you guys are in the back, we can do a complimentary benefits check to see what kind of insurance coverage you can expect for future visits at our office. Cost Estimate: $125 new patient comprehensive exam
Many dental insurance plans, most of which are PPO plans, pay the providing dentists a very low amount for each procedure. Therefore, these dentists must see many patients in order to make a living since they are being paid little for each procedure they do. In addition, they often offer free exams, free x-rays, free everything just to get patients to walk in their offices. Now of course, if they are giving away a bunch of services for free, they need to make money somewhere - don''''''''''''''''t be surprised to find out you have a bunch of cavities. Maybe you do and maybe you don''''''''''''''''t. Not that the dentist is being dishonest but the implication is there. Most people would rather pay for the intial exam and x-rays (maybe $100-$300) and not feel as though the dentist "must" find something inorder to cover the costs of the free exam (the staff doesn''''''''t work for free, why would the dentist?). Dental insurance was NEVER designed to cover all dental care expenses. It must be viewed as a helper only. New patient exams in my office are $125 most of which any dental insurance plan will cover. I''''''''''''''''m not a provider for the insurance companies, I''''''''''''''''m a provider for my patients. David M. Kaffey, DDS www.davidkaffey.com 610-644-2502

It depends on what plans you have. Most dentists do not accept HMO or DMO plans. PPO plans are accepted by most dentists. What type of plans do you have and who are they through (Delta Dental, United Concordia, etc.)?
