Case Description
I recently had a root canal performed on one of my back teeth. The cost estimate for build-up is $112 and crown is $622. My insurance picks up 50%, so my out of pocket will be $382 . I realize this is an ok deal in the first place, but I am of modest means. I have Guardian Dental coverage and it is 50% even for out of network for this type of procedure. I am looking to pay under $300 out of pocket.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:

Cost Estimate: $$1500
Lots of luck! In our practice a cast post and core build up after endodontics is $325.00 and the crown is $1196.00. The price you were quoted is WAY below average. If the dentist is good and the materials are of good quality, he is likely loosing money doing the work for this fee. Jump on it before he gets smart and re3alizes that he is loosing money and ups his fees. Remember, there are no bargins in healthcare, just good and bad care.

If your plan is a PPO plan then the fees you are quoting are from the Guardian contract and already represent a reduced fee. The 50 percent coverage that you have purchased through that company would not allow the dentist to reduce his fee further or else it is a violation of the contract that was agreed to by that dental office. those fees are not only in line, they are very reasonable. Guardian has set those fees. The only thing cheaper would be to have the tooth extracted (I''''m sure you would complain about this fee too). You could try a dental school.
