Case Description
Dear Doctor,

On the upper left area, my jaw cracks when I open my mouth fully, I when I move the lower one from left to righ, and when I eat something solid. I also have a wisdom teeth as shown on the picture, maybe it is related ? This sound is really anoining and I feel the bones are moving a little (because they would be out of place ?). Thank you very much for your help. I can drive anywhere around Philadelphia and Valley Forge, PA.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Gregory, this appears to be a problem with the cartliledge disc in your jaw joint. We call the joint the TM joint. You may have heard to the term TMJ. For some people, this condition is not painful but for others it is. Regardless of pain, since the disc is sliping off the head of the jaw bone, treatment often involves the fabrication of a mouth appliance that repositions your jaw to help keep the disc where it belongs. The treatment sounds complex but it is not. Typically patients will need 2-5 appointents to be fitted for the appliance and have it adjusted. I treat many patients with this problem and they generally do very well with treatment.
